As demand for cassava derivatives continue to rise, manufacturers in Nigeria are spending about N291.6 billion ($810 million) yearly to import cassava syrup to meet local demand.
Also, there is high demand of cassava by manufacturers of industrial starch, beer, food and candy.
Currently, the country needs 1.8 million tons of derivatives as global price of cassava syrup stands at $450 per ton.
Cassava has some major industrial products, among which are ethanol, industrial starch, cassava flour, glucose syrup and sweetener, with limitless domestic and export market potential. Read more
