The African Cassava Agronomy Initiative (ACAI) of the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is set to commence a series of training sessions for agricultural extension service practitioners.
The aim of the training program is to equip frontline extension and advisory services personnel and farm managers with the knowledge needed to improve cassava and maize productivity and yield.
CONTENT OF TRAINING
The training will be done in both theory and practical sessions, and will cover the following:
• Six Steps to Cassava Weed management and Best Planting Practices
• Guide to Correct and Safe Use of Herbicides
• Use of ACAI digital tools (Akilimo, Herbicides Calculator, Videos, IVR, etc) in farmer education
• Recommendations on Scheduled Planting and Harvesting
• Tailored Fertilizer Application Recommendation
• Cassava and Maize Intercropping Recommendations
• GenderDuration of training – Two days

Dates of training – 7-8 May / 4-5 June (Seats for April no longer available ) 

Venue of training – IITA campus, Ibadan

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
The training is FREE, but registration is required. IITA will provide training materials and meals during the training program (lunch and tea-breaks) while participants will be responsible for their breakfast, dinner, transportation and accommodation.

Participants shall also receive a certificate of participation at the end of the training program

APPLICATIONS REQUIREMENTS
Interested persons are required to possess at least one of the following:
• A degree/diploma/certificate in agricultural extension
• At least one year of experience in farming operations
• Passion for agricultural development
• Affiliation to a farm or agriculturally based organisations
